Maurizio Galimberti
Maurizio Galimberti is an Italian photographer that made his name in the photography industry, through narrative photography.
Galimberti was born in an Italian town called Como, back in 1956. As a young aspiring photographer, his impeccable photographic talent was there for all to see, he claimed many awards in his early days as an aspiring artist.
He started his career focusing on film, in which he focused predominantly on black and white film, before applying himself more with polaroid cameras.
However, he really stomped his authority on the photography industry when he made an image, that consisted of multiple small pictures.

Critical Analysis
Context
This piece here is an example of Repetition in photography, by famous Italian artist Maurizio Galimberti this image is called the colosseocilindroso. I think that he has chosen to use this Italian monarch, because he himself [Maurizio Galimberti] is Italian and this piece therefore may be close to his heart, this is an Italian flat, he is demonstrating the value of homeland by making this his focal point of the photograph. Content Galimberti was born in an Italian town called Como back in 1956, though later moved to another Italian town called Meda. He made this piece in 2013 when he was aged 57. In this piece we can see he has kept the colours predominantly the same, and has captured an image of an Italian hotel and has divided the photograph up into different layers, and has joined them up to make one big image. This is a symbol of his heritage and tradition [Italian] and this adds a little more to the piece because it is close to his heart, this links to the context. Process Due to the date that he made this piece in [2013] he may have used a digital software to split the picture up (e.g Photoshop). This image was taken as one clear picture and has been digitally reformed into a lot of miniature pictures which have then been joined up to create the bigger picture. Form He has used a digital camera to capture this, and I feel he has mixed different working classes in one image, he has used a digital camera that is a frequently used thing by people financially strong, to capture an image of an old house that is likely to be owned by someone not so financially strong. Evaluate I feel that his intention has been to remind the people that their is a divide within working classes and this should not be forgotten, and should be remembered and appreciated by modern society. I like this image because the original photograph is a very appealing picture and is easy on the eye, and he has taken the piece to another level by sectioning it off into different pieces, and has made this piece very unique. It is unique because not a lot of photographers would have thought of doing this, and he has gone to greater lengths to make sure that the image is recognized as his, and so to the style. |
Repetition in Photography
For the upcoming project, we needed to focus on reflection or repetition in our photography, after creating in-depth and detailed mind maps, I have decided to choose to focus on repetition over reflection, here are the mindmaps I created for both.
For this project I decided to research some photographers that adopt repetition themed photographs, such as Maurizio Galimberti which is available on the Artist Profiles page
I have decided to chose repetition as it appealed to me most, and feel I can be more creative within a repetitive project. This can include Short films, Stop Motion, Movement, Narrative etc. I feel like repetition is also more appealing then reflective photography as it can provoke more emotion in photographs and can tell more of a story, rather than having a picture just reflecting back.
I have some brief ideas that I can potentially carry out in this project, for example, I could do some narrative photography like time lapses that tell a story that a reflective photograph couldn't, or even a short film/stop motion.
I have some brief ideas that I can potentially carry out in this project, for example, I could do some narrative photography like time lapses that tell a story that a reflective photograph couldn't, or even a short film/stop motion.
As you can see, a short film/stop motion tells more of a story than a single photograph, although the image isn't reflective, it does demonstrate that a short film is more entertaining and appealing to an audience than a single photograph, and it has much better narrative aspect.
Also the stunning San Francisco Fog Time Lapse, is a unique piece of art that could not be captured in one singular image, the time lapse goes on for 2;41 minutes and shows various different aspects.

Mindmap 2:
In order to break away from the Maurizio Galimberti-esque photoshoot's and explore more in to Repetitive photography, I have decided to create another midmap via Popplet, in order to fuel more creative ideas. Here it is:
To make this different I have added the ideas of more scientific experiments, e.g food rotting or something melting/freezing over time. Also I have focused more on Group Photography, this is the idea of a specific amount of people/group coming together to create a bigger picture that can be captured from a higher angle.
Photoshoot 1 Plan:
For my opening photoshoot on this project, I am planning on capturing one single image and dividing it up into smaller images, then re-aligning the smaller images together to recreate the original image. I am going to be at White Hart Lane (Tottenham Hotspur stadium) soon, so I plan on using this as my image.
Photoshoot 1
For the first photoshoot, I captured an image pitch-side at White Hart Lane, home of the famous Tottenham Hotspur. This photograph was inspired by the work of Maurizio Galimberti, as you can see I have split a singular image into six different individual images, to make one bigger picture.
WWW: I have used creative ideas, and have tried to replicate the work of a successful photographer such as Maurizio Galimberti by dividing a single image into six different unique pictures.
EBI: I have not used a lot of my initial ideas such as narrative, or even short films/stop motion etc, also I have only taken one image in this shoot, therefore there is a lack of variety.

Photoshoot 2 Plan
In my previous shoot I captured an image of White Hart Lane (Tottenham Hotspur football stadium) as my only example of Repetitive photography. I then divided the pictures up the re-aligned them digitally. This time I plan on using the same approach, but with more images to show a theme of Repetition throughout my pictures.
Photoshoot 2
For this shoot I decided to capture some images around my school, and make a joiner-esque image created of small pictures, I made five different collages here they are:
WWW: I think I have certainly used a lot of variety in my work this time round, and I have also thought outside of the box and created a unique photoshoot.
EBI: Gather more images, and look for potentially more narrative photographs.

Photoshoot 3 plan
In my last photoshoot I resumed the theme of Repetition by dividing the pictures taken around my school up into smaller images and then digitally re-aligning them through Photoshop. This time I will use the same theme of dividing the picture(s) up and then re-aligning them, but this time I will print my picture and divide the picture into six individual images (with a ruler) then cut them out into each individual picture. Once the image has been divided into six different sectors, I will join them back up and see if there is a difference between re-aligning them digitally and manually.
Photoshoot 3
For this photoshoot, I decided to take a single image, print it, cut it out and then re-allign to it's previous self.
WWW: I have been very creative and have used unorthodox methods in order to create a nice looking unique photograph.
EBI: I used the same method with more images, and made more of these pictures in a gallery.

Photoshoot 4 Plan
In this photoshoot I am going to explore one of the most basic themes within repetitive photography, by focusing on patterns, this could be anything as basic as a brick wall, but I will be trying to find patterns that are abnormal in comparison.
Photoshoot 5 plan
In my opening three photoshoots I have focused on the work of Maurizio Galimberti, by splitting a singular image into six different individual images and then reverting them back to the original image. I have done this digitally using Photoshop in 'shoots one and two, and have done it manually in 'shoot three. This time I am breaking away from that theme and exploring more scientific ideas, such as food rotting or an object melting/freezing, this will be exploring the idea of time lapses.

This time lapse was posted on YouTube by a user called Temponaut Timelapse. This video was posted on December 17th 2011. The creator of this piece of work may have been doing this for political reasons. He/She may have shown that food is precious and should not be allowed to go to waste, because it can become a big problem. Content: This piece of work is titled 'Banana Time Lapse' , in this short clip we can see a banana and a white background. In this video the clip shows a soft banana turning even softer as it molds. Process: This person has used a time-lapse to show how food rots over time. They could have used a smart phone to create this time lapse effect, however due to the date it was uploaded (17th December 2011), it may not have been a smart phone that they used. Form: This was digitally made using time-lapse, time lapse is a combination of images captured over a period of time which is then put into a video format. Evaluate: I like this piece of work because it has a significant meaning, millions of people round the world die of hunger, and some of us are privileged enough to have food, and this shows that we should be grateful for what we have and make use of it. I feel that the artist has matched their intentions in this piece. |

This time lapse was posted on YouTube by a user called Macro Room. The video was posted on 22nd August 2016. The creator of this piece may have done this for environmental reasons. This could show that heat can ruin things and as such maybe this is a warning that Global Warming can be dangerous, and that we should look out for it and do things to prevent it.
Content:
The user Macro Room has titled this piece 'Ice Cream Melting in Marco", in this we see a variety of different ice creams being melted on a plate. This shows some ice creams with actual ice still on them, then melting. Process: The artist that created this piece used time-lapse. They may have used a smart-phone to upload this due to the date (22nd August 2016). However, due to the clear picture it is likely they used a modern professional camera.
