Maurizio Galimberti
Maurizio Galimberti is an Italian photographer that made his name in the photography industry, through narrative photography.
Galimberti was born in an Italian town called Como, back in 1956. As a young aspiring photographer, his impeccable photographic talent was there for all to see, he claimed many awards in his early days as an aspiring artist.
He started his career focusing on film, in which he focused predominantly on black and white film, before applying himself more with polaroid cameras.
However, he really stomped his authority on the photography industry when he made an image, that consisted of multiple small pictures.

Critical Analysis
Context
This piece here is an example of Repetition in photography, by famous Italian artist Maurizio Galimberti this image is called the colosseocilindroso. I think that he has chosen to use this Italian monarch, because he himself [Maurizio Galimberti] is Italian and this piece therefore may be close to his heart, this monarch [colosseocilindroso] is an old arena that was around during the Roman times, and maybe he is trying to keep in roman tradition by making this his focal point of the photograph. Content Galimberti was born in an Italian town called Como back in 1956, though later moved to another Italian town called Meda. He made this piece in 2013 when he was aged 57. In this piece we can see he has kept the colours predominantly the same, and has captured an image of a famous Italian monarch and has divided the photograph up into different layers, and has joined them up to make one big image. This monarch is a symbol of his heritage and tradition [Italian] and this adds a little more to the piece because it is close to his heart, this links to the context. Process Due to the date that he made this piece in [2013] he may have used a digital software to split the picture up (e.g Photoshop). This image was taken as one clear picture and has been digitally reformed into a lot of miniature pictures which have then been joined up to create the bigger picture. Form He has used a digital camera to capture this, and I feel he has mixed previous society and modern society in one image, he has used a digital camera that is a frequently used thing in modern society, to capture an image of a historic monarch which was in a previous/historical society Evaluate I feel that his intention has been to remind the people that Roman history was key in the course of Modern History and should not be forgotten, and should be remembered and appreciated by modern society. I like this image because the original photograph is a very appealing picture and is easy on the eye, and he has taken the piece to another level by sectioning it off into different pieces, and has made this piece very unique. It is unique because not a lot of photographers would have thought of doing this, and he has gone to greater lengths to make sure that the image is recognized as his, and so to the style. |
