David Hockney
David Hockney is one of the most famous people in modern day photography. He claimed that a painting had a deeper meaning, and resembled true art more than a simple photograph. He backed his point very well, when he said that a very good painting would take hours and hours, whilst a good photograph would take a simple click of the button, in a matter of seconds.
He was born on 9 July 1937 (age 78) in Bradford, England.
He studied at Bradford school of Art (1953 - 1958)
During his career he has been won:
- John Moores Painting prize (1967)
- Companion of Honour (1997)
- Royal Academician Order of Merit (2012)
He created 'Joiners' which was in other words a photograph collage. He came up with this idea in the early 1880's. One of his earliest 'Joiner' pieces was off of his mother. One of Hockney's major aims was to discuss how the human vision works.

Critical Analysis
Context
This piece here is an example of joiners in photography by David Hockney the image is called Pearblossom Highway that was made in 1986. I think the artist [David Hockney] may have chosen to focus on the 'Pearblossom Highway' because the road is long, slender and bumpy, and that could resemble the road to being a successful artist. The stop ahead sign could resemble somebody's doubts. Content Here the artist uses joiners to create this picture, this style is very unique and is very similar to Mauizio Galimberti. Here he adds detail by adding small tin cans on the roadside, and scruffy palm trees, he may have done this to show their is little meaning to the picture. However, by having no meaning to the picture, it makes it more interesting, he may have chose this on purpose. |
